the red menace

A professor at some dinky college in Colorado assigned his students to write a paper. They were supposed to write a paper contradicting the the image portrayed of her at the republican convention. After assigning the paper, he singled out republicans in in the class and made fun of them while encouraging or at least allowing others to ridicule them as well. That's shocking, i'm shocked. A professor who's liberal? That's truly shocking. the assignment as been revised to include any political figure, and the school is investigating the incident. I just can't get over how shocked i am, because i was under the impression that colleges and professors across the country weren't extreme liberal and biased. well i guess you live and learn.

And even so, I don't see anything wrong with the assignment. I too make my students debate points they don't believe, it's great practice.

Sorry, i guess i left her name out, but there's only 1 person it could be. Sarah Palin. The point isn't about whether or not they have to write an assignment they don't believe, because most of the class is democrats, and they do probably do believe it. The point is that they have to write a paper attacking the republican ticket, and only the republican ticket. If one week they were supposed to do this about sarah palin, and the next week about obama that would be fine and dandy. But this professor is clearly someone who feels strongly about the election, and felt strongly that the republicans were putting on a show for sarah palin, and that she's not really any good, and he wanted to force his students to see her the way he saw her. Whether or not he's right is besides the point. The point is that it's not his place to lead them in one direction. At least nobody would admit that, since the school almost certainly takes public money either from the federal government or the state.

well i suppose it depends on what class it was. if he was teaching Bullshit 101, then criticizing the democrats wouldn't make sense, because it wouldn't be bullshit, it's be factual. if he was teaching political science then of course you're right.
